My mood

It started with a low light
Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed
And then they took my blood type
They left a strange impression in my head
You know that I was hoping
That I could leave this star-crossed world behind
But when they cut me open
I guess I changed my mind

And you know I might
Have just flown too far from the floor this time
'Cause they're calling me by my name
And they're zipping white light beams
Disregarding bombs and satellites

That was the turning point
That was one lonely night

The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"

Well, now I'm back at home and
I'm looking forward to this life I live
You know it's gonna haunt me
So hesitation to this life I give
You think you might cross over
You're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
You better look it over
Before you make that leap

And you know I'm fine
But I hear those voices at night
Sometimes they justify my claim
And the public don't dwell on my transmission
'Cause it wasn't televised

But it was the turning point
O what a lonely night

The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"

The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"

My global position systems are vocally addressed
They say the Nile used to run from East to West
They say the Nile used to run from East to West

I'm fine
But I hear those voices at night
Sometimes

The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"

The song maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says, "Everybody look down
It's all in your mind"

It's all in my mind
It's all in my mind

Cosmic Love

A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes
I screamed aloud, as it tore through them, and now it's left me blind

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

And in the dark, I can hear your heartbeat
I tried to find the sound
But then, it stopped, and I was in the darkness,
So darkness I became

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map
And knew that somehow I could find my way back
Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too
So I stayed in the darkness with you

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

Lungs!

I am absolutely obsessed with the band
FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE!
This song, "I am not callinng you a liar" is from their latest album, Lungs. Their music just hits a nerve with its soulful lyrics and haunting melodies. And I love that it is so different... it is unpretensious yet aware. What do you think?

Why roadtrips in Norway are no good

Bad roads, closed roads, sheep, sketchy boat schedules and bad fast food. I really love this commercial that hits the nail on the head when it comes to road conditions over here.

Get ready to spark!

Since Norwegians don't rely on cars as much as the average American, we often turn to the spark. Winter is the essential time to kick the dust of this ancient method of getting ahead. We call it spark, others sparkstøtte. It came into use in the 1900s here in Norway, after it was first made in Finland.

To be honest... I don't really use it that much. These days, the activity of sparkstøtting is mostly for older folks or kids. But it's fun, and it brings back some dear childhood memories.

I took Jamie on a trip to introduce him to real Scandinavian culture!

Feeling sentimental

I'm listening to a CD with some of my favorite songs on today. One of them reminds me so much of my dear friend, Ally. She's probably one of the coolest people I've ever met, and we became close friends within just a few days. We met while we were both studying at the University of Oregon. We had so much fun during that time, and I remember I was soooooo sad when she was going to move back to Bethesda, Maryland.

There's a song called "I'll miss you" by Frente that perfectly describes it. I thought I'd share it with you.

The picture is from my 25th birthday when she suprised me with a homemade gift. Check out the John Cusack poster!

Good ole John!

This song is a classic. Chances are you've heard it several times before, but still... John Fogerty rocks my socks off!

If your ears are sore

Take a cue from Jewel :

Fly like a raven, black honey into the night

Soft like the air beneath, a swan in her flight

Then return back home to bed

And bring the dancing stars

Sleep and dream of a white wolf howling

And know that I am near

Shhhh, close your eyes, don't ask why,

Let's dream, together, you and I

Oh, close your eyes, we will fly,

Dreaming, together, you and I

The moon has sailed in a silver gown of stars

That's long, but not forever

Soon her love will rise as mine

And sing to the shadows

Tomorrow we shall rise with the dawn

Kiss the flowers and bloom

But, now, lie still as the wind and listen

For I will come to you with the foot steps of morning

Shhh, close your eyes, don't ask why,

Let's dream, together, you and I

Oh, close your eyes, we can fly

Dreaming, together, you and I

Dream, dream, dream, dream...

Marvellous music

Here are some of my favorite songs. Enjoy.

The always fabulous Danish rockers The Raveonettes

In my opinion, one of the best songs from Mazzy Star

And of course, Frente! This is their cover of New Order's 'Bizarre Love Triangle'. Love! Frente! disbanded in 1996, but you can find their discography here.

I absolutely love this song. It reminds me of that rush of blood to the head when you're smitten with someone... you just want to spend every minute with that special person. More about Imogen Heap here.

Ah... heartbreak. Conveyed beautifully through the ambient sound of Magnet, a fantastic Norwegian band.

One of my current fave songs

This is such an awesome song... and the video is fab. It's called 'Love in a Trashcan', and it's performed by the Danish group The Raveonettes.

Prime time = mocking time

Come on, guys. If we can't laugh at ourselves, we take ourselves too seriously. That's why we need comedians, pundits, bloggers and talk-shows... to put things into perspective. How can we move forward if we can't look at things from a below-the-belt perspective?

Sarah Palin has openly slammed Fox's Family Guy for allegedly mocking her son Trig's Down Syndrome. This after the show aired an episode featureing a character, Ellen, who had Down Syndrome. Palin took personal offense of the skit, and said, "The world is full of cruel, cold-hearted people." Well, indeed.

The world IS full of cruel and cold-hearted people. But what I find more hurtful, is the fact that Palin uses her son as a political prop. She carries him around, and uses him to promote her religious views to fuel her political propaganda. And what baffles me, is why she took offense of this? The show is making fun of everyone, blacks, gays, religious people, conservatives, liberals, students, immigrants... you name it. Doesn't Palin realise that her party is behind mocking gays? To take away their freedom? The conservatives are all about "Legalizing freedom", but they're also denying fundamental rights for those who are not straight, white and Republican. How about taking offense on their behalf, Palin?

I am in no way saying it's OK to mock developmentally challenged people. I'm fortunate to know several people who have DS, and they can be functioning, smart and achieve great things. What ticks me off in this context, is Palin's choice to point them out as fragile and as people who need to be shielded from jokes. What I also don't get, is why when her buddy Rush Limbaugh used the word "retard", she tried to cover his sorry ass.

Andrea Fay Friedman, the actress who voiced Ellen, actually HAS DS.
She wrote Palin this response in an e-mail:

My name is Andrea Fay Friedman. I was born with Down syndrome. I played the role of Ellen on the "Extra Large Medium" episode of Family Guy that was broadcast on Valentine's day. Although they gave me red hair on the show, I am really a blonde. I also wore a red wig for my role in "Smudge" but I was a blonde in "Life Goes On". I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line "I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska" was very funny. I think the word is "sarcasm".

My heart has a hole

Listen to this song.... it's awesome. And it describes how I feel about the loss of my dear Sasha.
